With the QR Code generator application for Adobe® AIR™ you can create your own QR Codes for mobile tagging.

The QR Code itself contains several types of information such as a weblink, a complete short message with target number, a phone number or simple text. With a camera phone one can read the information in the code and immediately start the corresponding action - like accessing a mobile website or sending a short message to the target number. That is where the code got its name from: "QR" for Quick Response.

To be able to read these 2D barcodes you need a small software on your mobile phone. We recommend the free Kaywa Reader from our friends at Kaywa, which is available for many phones: http://reader.kaywa.com/en. On the other hand, some things look like they were tacked on as an afterthought, and the overall interface is not as user-friendly as a basic Windows program should be that has been around for as many years as it has. The title bar is gone and the path to the current file has been stuck into a little spot that is reserved for page tabs. It sounds like a minor thing, but it's one of the most important parts of coding in a multi-tab editor. As soon as you open more than a few pages, the file path is cut off, and with a few more open, it disappears. Major step backwards here:

The other obvious usability problem here is the black text on dark grey in the tabs. On a laptop it's impossible to see, as is the white text on the dark grey. Also, the individual pages have a close button (X) which is a great bonus, but it would have been nice to have a close button on the frequently used panels (like Find/Replace) so you don't have to right click to pick a menu item to close a panel. Also, the entire border of the program is gone, making it blend into other open programs on your desktop. I understand this is the new "owl" interface, but owls should be left in the woods to live in trees. We really don't need the artsy fartsy stuff in a code editor.

Ever since the Adobe acquisition of Macromedia faithful developers that find Fireworks to be a vital part of their work flow have worried about Fireworks going down the same path as Freehand. With each CS Suite release they'd ask, is this the end of Fireworks? The release of the public beta for Fireworks CS4 gives a resounding answer to this question!

No it's definitely not the end of Fireworks... In fact, I'd call it a new beginning. Adobe struggled to get it's head around Fireworks and how it should fit into there suite of tools, they were so Photoshop focused that they didn't have a clear vision for Fireworks. Not any more. They finally "got it"!

Fireworks is not a competitor to Photoshop, it's the "next step" in the web development work flow. Adobe has positioned Fireworks as THE tool to quickly comp web sites and RIA UIs. It is meant to bring together designs and elements done in Photoshop and Illustrator and combine them and prep them for the transition to HTML, Flash, or Flex. Take time to dig around the new features and you'll see what I mean.

Connect Now

Another piece of Adobe's office suite is ConnectNow, an online whiteboarding and web conferencing tool. ConnectNow allows for live meetings over the web and offers screen sharing, chat, whiteboards, VoIP, and video conferencing. Like the other products, ConnectNow doesn't clutter the screen with the many features is offers, yet the intuitive layout makes them somehow seem to be never far from reach.

Participants can be assigned roles which can be changed at any time during the meeting. These roles provide for their ability to share their screens with other members and make notes. Since audio is integrated in the app, companies can save money that would have been previously spent on teleconferencing bills. However, if traditional teleconferencing is preferred, Adobe provide numbers via Vapps voice conferencing service - you would just pay the long distance charges.

The only drawback to ConnectNow is its limitations in terms of number of people. Currently, only three people can use the service simultaneously, which limits its ability to offer a true alternative to a business's current web conferencing solution.
